Flights to Lisbon and arrival planning
For most international attendees, the simplest arrival airport is Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS). Lisbon’s Red metro line connects the airport side of the city with Oriente, the transport hub nearest MEO Arena and FIL. This makes an airport-area or Parque das Nações arrival practical even if the rest of the trip is based downtown.
Long-haul travellers should compare an arrival on 8 November with arrival early on 9 November. The extra night costs more, but it protects opening-night plans from missed connections, baggage delays and jet lag. Travellers from Asia, North America and Australia or New Zealand will often connect through a European or Gulf hub, so compare the total journey and layover—not only the headline fare.
- Arrival on 8 November: best for long-haul travellers, exhibitors and anyone with meetings before opening night.
- Arrival on 9 November: reasonable for short-haul European flights with a comfortable delay buffer.
- Departure on 13 November: avoids leaving before the final day finishes and allows time for end-of-event meetings.
Use the FlightHotelGo flight search to compare schedules, then check the airline’s baggage rules before paying. If equipment, booth materials or multiple bags are involved, a slightly higher fare with a better baggage allowance can be more economical than adding extras later.
Where to stay for Web Summit 2026
Parque das Nações: easiest for the venue
This modern riverside district surrounds Oriente, MEO Arena and FIL. It is the strongest choice for early starts, late finishes and minimum commuting. The trade-off is that demand is concentrated and prices may rise quickly around the conference.
Saldanha and Avenidas Novas: practical business base
Saldanha is on the Red line, creating a straightforward ride to Oriente and the airport. The area has a broad hotel supply, restaurants and a business-district feel. It suits attendees who want reliable venue access without staying immediately beside the exhibition halls.
Baixa and Chiado: central Lisbon experience
Stay here for historic streets, restaurants and a more classic Lisbon visit. Reaching Oriente normally involves a metro change, so allow additional time during the morning peak. This area works best for travellers who are combining the conference with sightseeing or client dinners in the centre.
Alfama: atmosphere over commute simplicity
Alfama offers character and viewpoints but its steep lanes and uneven surfaces can be inconvenient with luggage. It is better suited to leisure extensions than to a tightly scheduled exhibition trip.
Before booking, compare the cancellation deadline, breakfast hours, workspace and walking distance to a metro station. A refundable room can be worth the premium while meetings and travel plans are still changing. Compare Lisbon hotel options, and use the existing Lisbon travel and car-rental guide for wider destination planning.
Getting to MEO Arena and FIL
Oriente station is the key transport anchor. Web Summit states that it is about 300 metres from MEO Arena and around 600 metres from the registration location at Pavilhão de Portugal. It serves the Red metro line as well as mainline trains and buses.
From Baixa-Chiado, official event guidance suggests taking the Green line to Alameda and changing to the Red line for Oriente. An alternative is the Blue line to São Sebastião, followed by the Red line. From the airport, use the Red line towards the city and leave at Oriente.
Lisbon Metro’s published airport-station hours are 06:30–01:00, but service changes can occur. Check the live metro status on the day rather than relying on a saved timetable. Contactless bank-card, phone and smartwatch payment is available across the metro network.
For groups, heavy luggage or arrivals outside metro hours, pre-arranged transport can reduce uncertainty. Compare a private transfer or taxi with public transport based on the full party cost. Driving is rarely necessary for conference days; consider a rental car only for a trip beyond Lisbon before or after the event.
Registration and event-day preparation
Official registration options include Terminal 1 at Lisbon Airport and Pavilhão de Portugal beside the venue. Exact operating times are released closer to the event. Registration requires the ticket stored in the Web Summit mobile app and photo identification.
The venue is cashless for food and drink. Free event Wi-Fi is expected, and the organiser asks attendees not to use personal hotspots because they can interfere with the onsite network. Pack a power bank, charging cable, reusable water bottle where permitted, a light rain layer and comfortable shoes. November conditions are often mild but mixed weather and rain are possible.
A practical five-day Web Summit itinerary
Sunday, 8 November: arrival and setup
Arrive, check into the hotel and test the route to Oriente if the location is unfamiliar. Exhibitors should confirm freight, stand access and team responsibilities. Keep the evening light after a long-haul flight.
Monday, 9 November: registration and opening night
Collect accreditation as early as the published timetable allows. Confirm app access, save priority sessions and arrange a clear meeting point for colleagues. Leave extra time for opening-night security and transport demand.
Tuesday, 10 November: first main conference day
Start with the sessions and meetings that most directly support the trip’s objectives. Use quieter gaps for the exhibition floor instead of trying to cover every pavilion at once. Book dinner close to a direct metro route.
Wednesday, 11 November: meetings and deeper networking
Reserve blocks for planned conversations and follow up with the strongest contacts while everyone is still in Lisbon. If evening events are spread around the city, confirm the return route before leaving the venue.
Thursday, 12 November: final sessions and follow-up
Use the last day to revisit high-value contacts and capture action items. Avoid booking a flight that forces an early exit; the trip’s most useful conversation may happen late in the programme.
Friday, 13 November: departure or Lisbon extension
Travellers with a later flight can add a compact city experience without compromising the event. Pre-book only what fits comfortably around airport timing. Browse Lisbon tours and activities for suitable options.
